Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island Offer Incredible Sunsets and So Much More
Fort Myers is not only a city steeped in history it is also a great example of 'Old Florida'. By 'Old Florida', I mean the neighborhoods have many of the typical Florida style one level homes with the hurricane shutters on them and the streets are lined with trees covered in Spanish Moss hanging almost to the blacktop in some places. Thomas Edison and Henry Ford where so taken with Fort Myers that they both built elaborate winter homes here along with work shops that are today, along with the grounds are open to the public as a museum. There are also several award winning beaches nearby including Sanibel island, which is famous for it's fantastic shelling opportunities, Fort Myers Beach just a short drive across the bridge and Lover's Key a few mile to the south.
Beautifully set along the Caloosahatchee River, winter home of Thomas Edison is one of the greatest historic treasures within Lee County. In 1885, Thomas Edison first visited Florida and built a vacation home. It was completed in 1886 and dubbed "Seminole lodge" by the Edisons, it served as a winter retreat and work place for the prolific inventor until his death in 1931. The inventive genius of Edison is evident throughout his 14-acre riverfront estate.
Edison's tropical botanical garden, has more than a thousand varieties of plants imported from all over the world, including a rather famous Banyan tree, which was a gift from Harvey Firestone in 1925. On March 6, 1947, Mrs. Edison donated the estate to the City of Fort Myers and in November of that year, public touring of the estate began.
Mr. and Mrs. Ford came to visit the Edison's in 1915 and like Fort Myers so much that the following year they bought their own home right next door. The Ford home, "Mangoes," was purchased by the City of Fort Myers in 1988 and was opened for public tours in 1990.
The community of Fort Myers Beach actually consists of two islands, Estero Island and its sister island, San Carlos. It used to be a remote stretch of green, edged with sand accessible only by boat. Today, there are more than 30 beach access points that are marked with colorful beach access signs that take you to developed, as well as secluded, pristine stretches of shoreline, many of which are near restaurants and outdoor cafes. You can hike, bike, lay out in the sand, shop and have a great seafood meal while not being too far from the 'main land'.
Sanibel Island is renown for it's spectacular shelling beaches where you can learn to do the "Sanibel Scoop". What makes this such a great shelling place is the islands unique positioning, it runs east to west, which is different from most islands which run north to south, this allows it to catch the many different kinds of sea shells. As you search the sand looking for that perfect shell be sure to put lots of sunscreen on your neck and wear a hat so your head doesn't burn. You will also need a bucket, net bag and scoop or shovel. Shelling at low tide after a storm is best and remember is illegal to take "live shells" from the sea. While on Sanibel Island be sure to visit the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge and enjoy one of the many bike paths, go bird watching, snorkel or walk along the beach.
Lover's Key is just a few miles to the south and as the name suggests, it's a very secluded place where you and your lover can relax and enjoy each other's company, and no one else's if you choose. It has also been named one of Florida's and the nations best beaches to visit on more than one occasion
Over all the Fort Myers area is a great place for those who love the outdoors whether it's on or off shore. Fishing, swimming, snorkeling, camping, hiking, biking, bird and animal watching, Fort Myers is a great place to spend a few days or life it truly has something for everyone.

Travel Cheaper - Travel With Vouchers
If you love a travel bargain, you should try using free travel vouchers. Here is how they work. A travel consolidator works out an agreement with hotels, airlines, condo rental management companies and vacation rental locations to sell off their unfilled space. Every property has times when they are not at 100% occupancy. The travel consolidators charge very minimal fees to pass on free certificates to you. The certificates are usually available for the most popular vacation destinations. You do typically pay a small booking fee to make the reservations. So you might be able to get a three night stay for $30.00. That is pretty good, don't you think? Now granted you won't be staying at a five star place, but you'll be staying at mid range places that might cost you easily $100 or $150 a day.
The vouchers are especially good for getting more vacation time than you might normally get. The average American hardly ever gets a real vacation. Who can afford to travel somewhere nice and stay a whole week? With the costs of gasoline, housing and health care climbing far faster than average wages, most people are lucky to get a vacation every two or three years. Most people squeeze in a weekend get-away or a long weekend trip a few times a year and are happy they were able to afford that. Using travel vouchers allows you to dramatically reduce the costs of you trips, which would allow you to stay longer or go more often. Those sound like pretty good options, don't they?
Even if you can afford to pay out of pocket for your vacations, why would you do that, when you can get some seriously discounted travel? If you have a little bit of disposable income, why would you dispose of it paying for travel, when you could save it or invest it and let it grow for the future? Using travel vouchers could allow you to put several thousand dollars a year into savings or investments. If you are the least bit aware of the power of time when investing, you know that any nickels and dimes you can put away or invest today will mean substantially more to you than if you wait a few years to put that money to work.
Many times, there are local get-aways available and there are always get-aways available for the most popular destinations. So whether you are hoping to get to Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Atlantic City, Nashville, Chicago, Branson, California, Hawaii, The south Texas coast, Las Vegas or any destination of your choice, the chances are you can get travel vouchers for those locations.
You do need to plan in advance to schedule your deeply discounted travel . Typically you need to buy the certificates early and then reserve your space 60 days in advance. But if you like planning and dreaming of all the fun things you can do on a trip, then you might as well get planning early, so you can save money and be prepared.
Many people find the pleasure of looking forward to a vacation can give them the perspective to get through the day to day grind without the stress that normally goes with it. Having a trip planned in the next two to four months can really help you get through your normal work week, without the hassles and stresses getting you down.
Travel vouchers have also become popular incentives for businesses to give to their new and old customers to show some appreciation. They are also a good sales incentives to help bring in those new customers. It is great to get a discount when doing business with a new vendor, but getting a deeply discounted trip as a premium for signing up for a service or buying a product is a pretty fun idea, don't you think?
So how do you get your travel vouchers? If you are looking for a self storage unit to store your belongings or your seasonal items, there are several self storage operators who are offering travel vouchers to people who visit their websites. Most self storage operators assume that if you view their web site and find that their locations are conveniently located to you and the self storage facilities look good on-line, the chances are very good you will go and rent with them. So it makes perfect sense for them to try and generate more traffic to their sites by offering the travel vouchers to people who visit their sites, make reservations or submit an email for more information.
One self storage locator service that does offer the travel vouchers is the Storage Concierge. This self storage finder service offers personal assistance in finding a local self storage unit provider to web visitors and those who place a toll free call to the Storage Concierge call center .
So if self storage is something you have been thinking of looking into, you could be one of the many people who use travel vouchers to get more vacation time every year, extend their pleasure trips or better management their incomes to be able to invest and travel at the same time.
Don't be shy about using your travel vouchers. There is no need to pay full retail for your travels and your vacations. Get a hold of some deeply discounted travel vouchers for yourself and enjoy life a little. I am sure you deserve it.

Types Of Discounts That Ruin Travel Bargains
Travel bargains can be found through the internet, or through publications such as the local newspaper, magazines or booklets left at welcome centers throughout the United States. The types of travel bargains listed in each might seem like superb deals that will save travelers lots of money on the many places they will visit in their travels while on vacation for a month. Not all travel bargains will hold up to their name because some will contain stipulations that dig deep into the savings.
A golfer might take advantage of a weekend golf package at a famous resort. The coupon books sent by a friend by include dinner for two at the end of the day. The coupon book might stipulate that additional diners will cost more, and golfers will be amazed to find that the charges are more than the cost of the room. Some dinner entries can incur additional charges because the additional diner bill will ring up separately and incur dining room charges and a tip for the waiter.
While some hotel discounts might allow guests to stay longer than usual, many hotel guests will wish that they had never left home. Additional days at a hotel resort might be blissful if certain amenities like massages are used, but hotel guests might not realize all of the charges that will be applied to such travel bargain treatments. Some massage therapists will charge by the hour and again for every luxurious oil that is used during the massage. Some sensations are better left alone because the final bill could make all the relaxed feelings go away the moment it is received.
People might use the telephone in the hotel room to search for travel bargains in the local area. Tourists can call the front desk and ask for local tourist attractions and the local number. Some tourists do not stop to think about the telephone charges that will incur every time they pick up the receiver. Many resort hotels are setting trends for charging for all types of service, and it might pay to ask for the cost of things that used to be free in the past.
Some travel bargains will become quite apparent when booking agents tell tourists what they can exclude from the bill during the booking process. Those travelers that have no use for the pool, the golf course, and limousine service to the airport the following morning or room service that night will find lower bills at checkout time at the hotel desk. Travelers will be introduced to such charges only once in a lifetime and will know from that point on the necessary steps to avoid them.
Booking agents can quickly become the reason why some vacations are ruined. Some agents do not clearly understand the discount offering that is valid during a specific period and will arrange for flights that leave at the wrong time of the day. Some booking agents will secure rental cars that are not upgraded to the correct size and travelers must endure cramped spaces for the holiday period they are traveling in because no other rentals are available that will meet the travel bargains listed in the coupon offer in their possession.

Last minute air flight discounts are easier to come across than you think
The nature of our society has created insanely busy schedules among us, and one of the fallouts of this change in lifestyle is an increase in booking last minute travel. Unfortunately, for those not in the know, they can pay absurdly huge prices for getting their tickets at the last moment. Fortunately, if you know where to look, you can get some great deals online and avoid the last minute travel "premium" tax.
Many believe these discount deals are no longer an "insider's paradise" and if you know where to go, you can get a great deal for yourself. Many travelers are booking directly with airline carriers themselves and cutting out the middleman so they can negotiate a better price. Other travelers are finding package deals that include discount travel, destination vacation and are combining other services such as hotel or car rental. Others are taking advantage of specialized niche services that only focus on one small travel niche, such as cruises, all inclusive deals, or even a particular area of the world. These service providers have worked out special deals because they are better able to move inventory that might otherwise sit vacant.
Where can a traveler such as yourself find such amazing online deals? If you do a search for "last minute airfare" you will see a huge number of results come up. Once site that comes up is called "Booking Buddy" and they are an aggregator airfare search engine that looks at all of the last minute deals that are available from the online booking engines. In addition to airfare, you can also search for vacation packages, cruises, vacation rentals, hotels and car rentals. If you are looking for good bargains, this is a great place to start your search.
Another place that you can check out online if you are looking for travel within North America, are the airlines themselves. You will need to go and look for special deals within their website. If you don't find any listed on their website, don't give up hope. Call them and see what they have available in terms of last minute deals. If you aren't getting a satisfactory interaction with the agent and getting the deal you want, move on to the next airline.
A website called "C Fares" works by gathering last minute air flight data across the different booking engines and comparing the data. This gives you a good idea on which booking engines are going to give you the better deals. In running through an actual search, there was as much as $200 difference on a flight from New York City to Denver. It is worth your while to look beyond the first result you get.
The process of getting last minute air flight discounts is really one of deciding where you want to go and then finding the different search engine flight aggregators to help you simultaneously look up the available flights. Don't stop at the first result you get because you can save yourself several hundred dollars if you just poke around a bit further. To really know how to get the lowest deals with the airlines directly, sometimes you need additional insider information that can get you the steep discounts.

How to Get Cheap and Discount Travel Deals
Traveling is not always expensive and extravagant. As both the airline fares and vacation fares are increasing day-by-day, hard working people are finding it difficult to travel and for them cheap travel is the affordable solution. You can make cheap travel possible by minimizing your expenses on travel and also make travel enjoyable.
For cheap travel you can follow these tips:
Travel packages with discounts are best travel deals; so look for discounted packages on sources like Internet and newspapers. It will be surprising for you that there are packages with discounts available especially for hotels, car rentals, airfares etc.
On your travel, the main expenditure will be on accommodation. The best tip for cheap travel will be opting for inexpensive accommodation. Cheap hotels offer lower prices on accommodation with all the facilities you require. You can also take an apartment on rental basis and it will be cheaper than hotels. Cheap Travel Secrets
There are two ways to save money traveling. The first way is
to get the best deals on the specific things you want. There
is a limitation to this type of approach though. If , for
example, you find the lowest price on the best hotel in
Honolulu at the height of the season, you will save
money, but still have a very expensive vacation. Trying to
get exactly what you want, or what you think you want, will
generally be an expensive proposition, in travel and in
life.
Be A Travel Opportunist
The other approach is to be a true opportunist. This will be
difficult for some of you, and entirely unacceptable to
others. Nonetheless, the travelers who get to travel the
most, go to the widest variety of places, learn the most and
do the most, are the opportunists. This will be true until
you are so wealthy that you have no monetary limits.
The first time I went to Ecuador, I went there because it
was cheap. If it wasn't, I would have had a great time -
somewhere else. The trip lasted a month, and cost $1045,
which included airfare and even the $130 fee for a guide to
take me to the top of glacier-covered Mount Chimborazo.
I cut the cost by taking a bus from my home in Michigan to
Miami, and back again when I returned from Ecuador. The
round-trip ticket cost $158. The round-trip flight to Quito
from Miami was only $256, because it was a courier flight,
which meant I signed for some luggage (car parts), and could
only take carry-on luggage.
Never did I feel deprived, or bored. I had a great time,
eating wherever it was cheap and clean, doing all sorts of
inexpensive, but interesting things, and traveling across
the country to climb Chimborazo. I also met and fell in love
with my wife Ana.
How To Become An Opportunist Traveler
Can you drink rum at a dollar per bottle, instead of your
favorite beer? Can you eat chicken instead of steak? How
about visiting the free sights first, and dancing in the
street festival instead of the disco?
Being an opportunist means you'll have just as much variety,
and probably almost everything you want - eventually. You
just have to stop trying to get exactly what you want
exactly when you want it. If the guide that took me up
Chimborazo hadn't dropped his price from $200 to $130, I
would have spent $2 for a bus and gone hiking on El Altar,
another great Andean mountain. That would have left me with
enough money for several other minor adventures.
More Secrets Of Cheap Travel
Plane Tickets: My wife and I were planning a trip to
visit family in Ecuador. The cheapest airfare from Traverse
City, Michigan to Quito, was $1720. Out of curiosity, I
checked Miami to Quito, and it was only $404. Airfare from
Traverse City to Miami was $300. Book two separate flights
and save more than $2000! The discount sites aren't set up
to search in this way (yet), so you have to do this on your
own. By the way, the whole six-week trip, which we took in
2004, cost $2400, including losing $100, and being robbed of
$174.
Food: Whether traveling here or in other countries,
it is usually cheaper to buy some healthy snacks in a
grocery store, rather than eat every meal in a restaurant.
When you do eat in restaurants, it can be cheaper to to
order individual items on the menu from the list of
appetizers or side dishes. You also may get more variety in
that way.
Accomodations: For a long trip, you may want to rent
an apartment in an interesting city. We did this for two
months in Tucson, for about $600 less per month, compared to
even the cheaper motels. Watch for hotel coupon-books in gas
stations. The coupons will often save you $10 on a room you
would have stayed in anyhow. If you have a conversion van or
RV, you can camp a couple nights a week, like we do, to save
on motels. We love the hotsprings we've stayed at, for a $3
fee to the BLM, instead of $40 for the cheapest motel in the
area.
Travel Expenses: Do more and travel less. It is often
the traveling part that costs the most, due to the cost of
gas, convenient fast food, and expensive hotels you are
forced to pay for when you just can't drive any further. So
if you find a place with a reasonable motel, and a lot to do
in the area - stay for a while!

A Cheapskate’s Travel Guide
The weather is usually wonderful, and there are countless of activities to do for everyone. To ensure that you have a great traveling experience in Brazil pay heed to the following advice:
Make sure that you are vaccinated against Yellow Fever. If you have not been vaccinated, you will not be allowed to enter the country.
Don’t carry loads of cash around with you. Take only what you need for the day, and keep it safe in your money belt.
Wear handbags or strapped purses across your body rather than just on one shoulder, as this will make bag snatching more difficult.
Avoid very crowded areas, as these can put you at greater risk of being pickpocketed.
Never walk alone at night on empty streets. Even if this means your journey time is elongated, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
For the sake of your health and safety, drink only non-carbonated mineral water, as the tap water in Brazil isn’t always that clean.
Brazil is a hot place, so be sure to stay hydrated by drinking at least two litres of mineral water or coconut water per day.
If you’re at the beach, try to restrict your exposure to the sun to within the recommended time limits, and use the strongest sun block you can find.
There are disease-carrying mosquitoes in some parts of Brazil, so carry around a can or bottle of insect repellent at all times.
Beware of unlicensed cabs, as these can be dangerous. Some unlicensed drivers have been known to portray themselves as real taxis, when they are anything but. If in doubt, ask a street cigarette vendor as to which taxis are genuine. Also, real taxis have red or maroon license plates, but this is no guarantee.
Stay away from favelas, as they can sometimes be very violent places swarming with criminals.
Do yourself a favour and take only a bear minimum of possessions out and about with you.
It's a good idea to make photocopies of your passport and Brazilian visa and use these, rather than the originals for identification purposes. You do not want to try to replace a stolen or lost passport.
It's a good idea not to wear pricey jewellery and watches. Just get yourself a cheap watch and wear that while you’re away.

How to get the Cheapest Car Hire on the market
The internet is fantastic for providing us with a wealth of information at our fingertips. When it comes to car hire we can now compare car hire companies. As the companies are aware of this will now to have pay more attention to the actions of the competition to ensure they remain competitive.
We can also use this information to bargain with car hire companies, you may prefer a certain provider or there is a provider more convenient for you or maybe has a lower excess/better range of cars. Whatever the reason, this extra information is good for us consumers.
To find the cheapest car hire company wherever in the world you will be able to find a comparison site that will do this for you. Not only is it quick and easy buy can you manage how difficult it would be contact the local car hire companies to ask for quotes, not only are there language barriers there are also cost issues. The alternatives are to wait till you get there; as they aren’t daft they will know that you need a car right away, so the price you will pay certainly won’t be cheap. You could use a broker in the UK to do this for you however you won’t know if the price they are going to offer you is a good price.
To avoid the headache and find cheap car hire use of the many comparison sites who are constantly improving their services to make the process as streamlined as possible so they can get you as quickly as possible from the home page to the final price page. Allowing you to easily compare with other providers on price, cars offered, excess amounts and any extras including or available such as GPS.
With lower sales for summer holidays this year and people looking to keep their costs low you may well find car hire prices have dropped too as they feel a knock on effect from the decline in the tourism industry. Summer is generally when prices get hiked so you never know you may well find a bargain, giving you more freedom in your holiday destination so you can take your time and spend time in the places you really want to see.

How to Take a Money-saving Eco-friendly Staycation (stay-at-home Vacation)
Here is a vacation idea that won’t break the bank. It will give your family many fond memories and that well-deserved rest AND will keep you eco-friendly (get more tips and join the movement on being eco-friendly at www.ecofriendlymovement.com). ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES OF HIGH GAS PRICE TIMES…
Take a “Staycation”
You say “What in the world is a Staycation?” Well, very simply it is a vacation where you stay home, you do all the fun things that you don’t have time to
do while you are working or going to school, AND you’ll have fun doing it right in your home or in your local area. Staycations are very eco-friendly because you are limiting your use of precious fuel by not traveling to a destination; your home is your destination. You will also see Eco-tips mentioned throughout this article.
Okay, are you ready to have fun! Here are the steps you need to take:
As with any “traditional” vacation, you need to plan and make some decisions before you “embark” on your trip. REMEMBER—The planning and anticipation of the trip is part of the fun.
PLANNING AND PREPARATION PHASE:
Coordinate calendars
1. Decide when you will all be available
2. Who you will invite (other than immediate family); don’t forget to ask Grandma, Grandpa or that favorite aunt to join you on your Staycation. Be sure to mention that this is a staycation and fun times only…no worries or problems discussed.
3. How long will your “trip” last?
4. Choose a trip coordinator to be responsible for ascertaining from the family what activities/ideas they would most like to see happen during the staycation and this person is responsible for setting the daily planned activities (see below). TIP: In our family Mom or Grandma is the coordinator.
Planned activities for each staycation day
5. Delve into interests of each staycation member and form activities around that interest…take turns with each member…this will also get everyone thinking about each other and sharing each others interests.
6. Play tourist and go to your Chamber of Commerce or Convention and Visitors Bureau. Pick up brochures, maps, or anything that will get you thinking about “short trips” in your area. You will be surprised at the places you didn’t know about, right in your own back yard. Don’t forget to go on-line and learn about your town, city, or state and see what you can see (It doesn’t hurt to slip in a few educational items; along with the fun…nobody will know the difference if you do it correctly).
7. Produce a planned activities calendar and post it in your staycation home (see below for Planned Activities Ideas). This will let every staycation member know what’s going to happen during the staycation. Remember no stress…if someone wants to suggest changes or has some other fun things to add to the schedule…that’s what you want to see…PARTICIPATION!
8. Plan downtime in the activities calendar. This is time when everyone can do their own thing; like hide it their rooms, go on-line, nap, or just plain do nothing. Every vacation needs a certain amount of downtime. TIP: Remember to schedule this time, but if someone is not feeling well, don’t stress just let them have a bit more time. They will come around when they feel they are missing out on some laughs. Also remember it is like a vacation, so get up late and stay up late.
9. Planned Activities are fun to create specifically geared toward your staycation members. Here are some ideas that have been successful:
a. Visit museums, aquariums, historical sites, or any places of interest in your area. Most of these places are free, fun, and educational. Don’t forget even libraries can be fun places to visit. No matter how small your town is you can ALWAYS find something to see that is interesting.
b. Visit any national parks, state parks, town parks or even school ball fields. Getting outside is the best way to have fun and be healthy at the same time. It’s a great place to have a picnic, play ball, swim, hike, walk, and fish or just plain read a book under a tree. Eco-tip: Remember to not pollute; whatever you take with you, bring home with you and dispose of probably.
c. Visit your own backyard. You can have a bunch of fun right in your own backyard. Have a cook-out, invite people over (remember to have every member of the staycation invite a friend), cook ‘smores, tell ghost stories, do star-gazing astronomy, arrange a scavenger hunt, run a drive-in (outdoor) movie (you can put blankets on the grass, bring your biggest TV/DVD outdoors, rent a family-friendly movie or pay-per-view event, serve popcorn and let the fun begin.
d. Plant a tree in your yard, have a dedication ceremony, invite the neighborhood (maybe they’ll get the idea and will want help the environment by planting their own tree). This is a big Eco-Tip!
e. Hold game night, every night. You can play cards, board games, build jigsaw puzzles, charades, interactive electronic games, movie night, scavenger hunts or you could go to a local arcade or movie theatre. This is one that you try to get everyone to participate in, the more the merrier. TIP: Some families do this kind of activity at least once a week; even when it isn’t a staycation.
f. Run a Talent Night, if your family is so inclined to be performers or possess any special talents. This is a great way to have a lot of laughs (Remember to laugh with someone not at someone, haha!).
g. Join an organization as a family and donate your time and effort to helping the “cause”. With this staycation article you are already well on your way to becoming environmentally eco-friendly so why not join the eco-friendly movement as a family by going to www.ecofriendlymovement.com you can join and learn all the ways your family can begin to SAVE THE PLANET. Another Big Eco-tip!
h. Get out the old family photos and remember the good times. Tell stories about people, events, remember people you have lost, remember the “good times”, somebody draw a big tree and start your family tree. Also remember to take plenty of candid and planned digital pictures of your current staycation. You are, after all making new memories.
You could also take this opportunity to do some scrapbooking, depending on the interest level from the staycation members; this could be a lot of fun. Some staycationers have even gone to cemeteries to trace genealogies, AND they had fun doing it.
Eco-tip: Remember save paper and take digital photos and create computer generated photo albums.
i. Do a Spa Day for the girls (or anyone who wants to join in).
You could go to a local spa or plan spa treatments for at home; like manicures, pedicures, or back rubs. Eco-tip: Remember you can make all natural organic products (see the free bonus books on the webpage www.ecofriendlymovement.com)
j. Do a Sports Day for the boys (or anyone who wants to join in). The boys could go to a driving range, batting cage, rent a sports DVD, etc.
k. Do some Arts & Crafts finish those projects you have had forever or just start new projects with the entire family. Even if you are not crafty try painting or even coloring, its fun.
Eco-tip: Use items you already have around the house…reuse items for crafts.
l. Take a walk, run, or jog family-style. Have an “adventure”, depending on the age of your children it is great fun to make-pretend on your adventure. Eco-tip: While you are walking pick up trash along the street!
10. Theme Staycations are loads of fun. You can plan for the entire length of your vacation as a theme or just a Theme Day. Here are some theme staycations that could fit into your plans:
Outdoor Adventure-Try this one whether your family has camped outside or not. It involves sleeping, cooking, and eating outside. This activity is great fun for all ages.
Tropical Island-You don’t even need to be near the beach. Dress in island wear; shorts, flowered Hawaiian shirts, flip-flops, drink tropical concoctions, and lay around reading books. Remember to make the food island appropriate-usually grilled.
Sports Theme-This can be themed with your local team colors, your favorite NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, or whatever sport. You can dress for your team, decorate for your team, and have a tailgate party (even in your driveway). TIP: If you are into NASCAR, you can have matchbox races.
Food preparation menu
Develop meal and snack menus for each day of the vacation.
(Remember no dieting, splurge on foods that make your family happy, comfort foods are great). When it comes time to prepare the foods, it’s Mom’s vacation too, so all pitch-in to help, take turns cooking, and most of all prepare easy clean-up meals. Don’t forget grilling, grilling, grilling is fun and easy clean-up.
Make reservations at local restaurants. This is your chance to try out that local place down the street that you go by everyday and “just haven’t had time to stop to try out”. You can also do take out meals, anything that is fun and makes it an easy part of the staycation.
Make grocery list and food shop in advance of staycation. Except for some pick-up items like milk or bread, have all the food purchased well ahead of the start of your Staycation. Eco-tip: Bring reusable grocery shopping bags.
STAYCATION DATE ARRIVES:
#1 Have FUN, FUN, & MORE FUN with the family, tell jokes, laugh a lot, and be silly.
#2 Play music all day and create a fun atmosphere.
#3 Follow the planned activities calendar as closely as possible (but do no
stress over it).
#4 Take loads of digital pictures-candid and staged.
#5 Eat too much food and diet after the vacation.
#6 Send postcards, letter, or emails to friends telling them about how much fun you are having on your staycation (you may inspire them to go on Staycation). Always use recycled paper.
#7 Remember both during this Staycation and in your daily life to reuse, recycle, reduce, and to limit your footprint on the planet. Visit www.ecofriendlymovement.com so you can begin your eco-friendly quest like so many other families have done.

Camping – a Whole New World Outside your Door
Camping is usually done at an official campsite, where the campers usually pay a small fee to use grounds that are preserved especially. These sites are preferable as they will have some security and amenities, though some people prefer to be more secluded. The only problem is that camping in areas that are not designated for camping can cause problems with the law. Many land owners do not wish campers to be on their property and some nature reserves prohibit camping due to damage it can cause to the environment.
Most campers sleep in tents which are usually made from a waterproof material like nylon. They can be erected almost anywhere and can be carried in a small bag so that campers do not have to use a vehicle. Campers will also bring a sleeping bag and various accessories like torches, portable stoves, knives, food, etc. Some prefer to make a camp fire but this must be done very carefully and is prohibited at some sites.
A large van called an RV in employed by many campers, or more commonly in the UK a caravan is attached to a car. Both of these serve as basic mobile homes, with beds, gas and sometimes electricity. These make it feasible to camp in more remote places but many feel that they detract from the feeling of being in nature.
Regardless of the way that campers travel and camp, a good knowledge of the great outdoors such as map reading and first aid. With a good site and the right equipment camping can be really good fun for the whole family and a great way to escape the rat race without going abroad. Camping is relatively inexpensive, often nostalgic, and gives campers a chance to really appreciate their natural world.

Let the Train Take the Strain
Or so ran an old BR strapline from the 1970’s. Actually, it was a lesson that I took on board at the time and subsequently rode the rail networks all over the UK whilst on numerous business trips. It was whilst I was engaged on these trips that I also caught onto the handy trick of always booking into hotels near railway stations. As an old colleague once advised me “you can be in and out like a flash”.
What he meant was that you could arrive the night before, catch one of the easily available taxi’s that always haunt the station’s environs to take you to your meeting and once complete, be back at your hotel, shower, grab your bags and already be near the station for a handy getaway.
Time and again this strategy proved its worth, especially on trips to London when I would often book myself either a hotels in Euston or a hotels in Kings Cross. Both of these choices, besides the merits already mentioned, provided other benefits; namely that they were both actually very well placed for finding entertainment, points of interest and generally ways to pass the time on the evening before my meetings were scheduled.
For that reason, my favourite hotel in Euston was the Euston Square Hotel; this particular Euston Hotel had a fantastically helpful ‘can do’ approach to its guests requirements. Additionally, besides being conveniently close to Euston Station, the Euston Square Hotel was also conveniently close to such attractions as Oxford Street, Trafalgar Square, Regents Park and Theatreland…ideal for a night’s exploration.
For a very similar reason, whenever I booked a hotel in Kings Cross, my hotel of preference was The Arriva Hotel. Now this was a Kings Cross hotel in its truest sence, being as it was literally minutes walk from the Station and so conveniently close to The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s and The Tower of London as to make it the most ideal place to stay for businessmen and visitors alike.
Well…all that for me was in days past; I’ve actually been retired for some years now. I still make the occasional visit to London just to take in the attractions and to re-visit old haunts and whenever I do, I still follow my old habit of booking either a hotel in Euston or a hotel in Kings Cross…times may have changed, but the convenience of following this methodology hasn’t.

Plan the Ultimate Vacation at Whistler
Whistler is one of the North America's most sought after vacation spot, situated between the two coastal mountains such as the Whistler and the Blackcomb. Located just two hours drive from Vancouver in British Columbia and Seattle in Washington.
Whistler is an unparalleled vacation spot, bestowed with an impressive landscape comprising unbeatable mountain peaks, crystal-like lakes, soothing surroundings, lush emerald forested areas, beautiful waterfalls, and picturesque valleys. Whistler is more popular as a four-season resort, proving great options to enjoy an array of activities including both summer and winter.
In winter, Whistler becomes an incredible destination filled with snow, and provides base for a number of activities. Skiing is one of the most popular winter activities that can be enjoyed in Whistler. With more than 200 marked trails and about 7500 acres of skiable terrains, Whistler and Blackcomb mountains provide great options for skiing.
No matter you want to any type of skiing such as alpine skiing, cross country skiing, glacier skiing, or freestyle skiing, the destination has superb options. For instance, the Lost Lake, just a minutes drive from the pedestrained Whistler Village, is a great venue for enjoying cross country skiing.
Likewise, the Blackcomb's glacier skiing is an excellent choice for glacier skiing. For those interested in backcountry skiing, nothing would be better than destinations such as Callaghan Country. Above all, a great number of ski schools and other facilities operate here to cater to every level of skier, from novice to experienced hands. Perhaps for these reasons, Whistler has been continuously ranked number one skiing resort in Whistler by many leading ski magazines.
However, skiing is not the only winter activity that can be enjoyed here. Visitors touring Whistler during winter can also engage in a number of other activities such as dog sledding, sleigh riding, cat skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, helicopter sightseeing tours, bald eagle viewing, heli skiing and snowboarding, and much more.
When comes to summer activities, Whistler provides limitless options. During summer, Whistler becomes a golfer's paradise, with a continuum of golf courses designed by such legendary golf architects as Robert Trent Jones Jr, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Robert Muir Graves. A specialty is that all of them are set in the backdrop of scenic vistas, which allows you to play golf while enjoying the breathtaking vistas of the place.
Another popular summer activity is hiking in Garibaldi Provincial Park, which is named after Giuseppe Garibaldi - a renowned Italian soldier, and sprawling over an area of about 194,650 hectares.
Whistler is also a perfect base for enjoying activities like mountain biking, with a great number of summer trails catering to every level of rider from beginners and intermediates to expert hands. For example, if you are a beginner, then take a mountain biking ride through the Magic Park, consisting of trouble-free rolling train and fun obstacles.
For those who want to enjoy an exhilarating summer activity in Whistler, then one of the best options would be to go for rafting in some of the best rivers in the place, such as, the Green River, the Squamish River, the Elaho-Squamish River, and the Cheakamus River, each of which abounds in natural beauty.
Similarly, for those who want to engage in some activities that are unique while your stay at Whistler, then jet boating on the serene upper Lillooet Lake would be a great experience. Popular summer activities that can be enjoyed in the area also include fishing, flightseeing, eco tours, bungee jumping, zipline trekking, and more.
Apart from these activities, Whistler renders excellent options for sightseeing with a great number of attractions such as Green Lake Park, Brandywine Falls Provincial Park, Narin Falls Provincial Park, Whistler Museum and Archives, Whistler Farmers' Market, and Marketplace Play structure.
Additionally, since the streets of Whistler are packed with an array of boutiques, shops, and art galleries, the destination is considered a haven for shopping. Above all, worth mentioning is the exciting nightlife of Whistler.
In short, things to see and do in Whistler are of such a great amount that a whole year is not enough to enjoy and explore them all. Hence, it is no wonder why people from across the world flock here. In order to provide visitors with ultimate holiday experience, Whistler provides great accommodation choices ranging from ski-in and ski-out chalets and condos to hotels, resorts, and villas complete with high-end comforts.

The Secret of How to Find Cheap Accommodation Near Football Stadiums: Revealed
Chris, a friend of mine, is a huge Huddersfield Town fan and often travels to watch Town play in away games. I am a dot-com entrepreneur specialising in travel and I was interested to learn about the difficulties Chris faces when his team play away.
Chris lives in Halifax and drives to and from games in the local area on the same day. However when the game is a long way away, driving back the same day is often not possible. Bournemouth, where Huddersfield played on August 18th, is 260 miles from Huddersfield and is too far for a day trip! Instead it makes more sense to find accommodation near the football stadium, book a room and make a weekend of the trip.
Using the main search engines to find accommodation, hotels , bed and breakfasts and guesthouses near football stadiums was not an easy task. There are lots of web sites offering thousands of hotels all over the country but none of them presented the information in a manner suitable for a football fan. Information and maps showing hotel and stadium locations relative to the city centre did not exist. Chris also wanted cheap hotel deals – he was travelling with his mates not his girlfriend and so there was no need for flashy accommodation! This is where I, the dot-com entrepreneur stepped in!
Looking at the problem, I realised that hundreds of thousands of football fans travel up and down the UK every week to watch their teams play. They type in keywords like football hotels, football hotel, hotels near football stadiums into Google but web sites do not offer the information the football fan needs to book hotels. I therefore mixed up Google maps technology with a new hotel price comparison system and created www.MATCHhotels.com
This new site shows football supporters exactly where hotels are relative to footballs stadium on a Google map. Users enter a match date to see prices from several leading hotel websites. Multiple prices are shown for each hotel so fans can find cheap deals and book hotels online.
Hotels near football stadiums are now easy to find and book online.

Insuring Your Travel on a Shoe String
Cheap travel insurance isn't necessarily about who's asking the lowest premium. Cheap travel insurance is about knowing your choices, perusing all the options and discarding the coverage you don't need. If you end up with cheap travel insurance that doesn't help you out of an overseas medical or evacuation jam, you haven't gotten a bargain. However, if you're a U.S. resident traveling within the United States you aren't going to need travel insurance that offers medical evacuation coverage. If you're touring the country by car you don't need lost luggage protection.
Travel insurance can offer much more than medical care while you're traveling. Some of the other features of some travel insurance plans are translation services, travel assistance, lost luggage, trip interruption, replacement of lost or damaged eyeglasses, repair of damaged or stolen rental vehicle, emergency medical evacuation coverage, flight cancellation due to bankruptcy of the airline, flight accident and terrorism.
For purposes of comparison there are four levels of travel insurance coverage - the most all-encompassing being total trip coverage. Some of these plans have a coverage ceiling as high as $500,000. Along with the above-mentioned travel catastrophes these plans also provide payment for return of traveler's remains to home in the event of death, as well as emergency dental coverage and reimbursement for financial default of your travel agency or any other provider of your trip, such as cruise company.
The next level down, comprehensive, can provide up to $1 million in coverage with some carriers. The range of coverage incidents and the ceilings are often a little lower than total trip coverage, however.
When it comes to cheap travel insurance there are two options. You can choose the economy level of trip coverage or, if you travel extensively, you may do better paying an annual premium. You can also end up with cheap travel insurance if you mix and match your various issues, choosing only the coverage you need. You can, for instance, choose to purchase only flight ticket protection (in case of trip interruption, for reimbursement of your non-refundable ticket). Perhaps you might want to purchase AD&D (accidental death and dismemberment) coverage in case of airline accident. Or you might want to add, or purchase alone, some cheap travel insurance for medical care, and/or medical evacuation. You may choose to add reimbursement protection for lost or delayed baggage.
Cheap travel insurance is about making good choices and buying only what you need as you need it. It's also about comparison shopping.
